ACME. formally opened in October of 1994 in Santa Monica, California. The gallery was created by Robert Gunderman and Randy Sommer who had previously worked together at FOOD HOUSE. FOOD HOUSE was a well known alternative art space in Santa Monica that exhibited challenging new work by Los Angeles artists most of whom were not represented by a gallery.

ACME. relocated to the 6150 Wilshire complex near the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in early 1998. A wide range of work is exhibited at ACME. including painting, drawings, prints, sculpture, video and installations.
